Edo State Threatens Legal Action Against Ex-Governor Obaseki’s Commissioner Over Alleged Defamation of Okpebholo
The Edo State Government has threatened legal action against Hon. Ogbeide Faluyi-Isibor, a former commissioner in the administration of ex-Governor Godwin Obaseki, over alleged defamation. The government has demanded a public apology and retraction within 24 hours for the alleged libelous statements made against Governor Monday Okpebholo and members of the State Executive Council.
In a statement by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Samson R. Osagie, dated June 8, 2025, the government condemned the malicious post circulated on social media platforms, aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the current administration. The government warned of pursuing both criminal and civil legal action if the apology is not issued promptly.
The government’s firm response underscores its commitment to combat misinformation and protect its integrity, particularly in light of the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Mr. Ogbeide Faluyi-Isibor, a former commissioner under the previous administration, alleged on June 6, 2025, via Facebook, that the current government had conducted a minimal number of executive council meetings and made claims regarding Governor Okpebholo’s residency and contract awards.
