Abbott calls Starmer’s migration remarks ‘fundamentally racist’ at rally

Thousands of trade activists, advocates and unionists gathered to ‘send a message’ to the Federal government at a rally in central London.

The Prime Minister expressed concerns about the UK potentially becoming ‘an island of strangers’ as he announced stricter immigration controls in a significant speech last month. This led to a mixed response from various political parties. Addressing the protest gathering in Whitehall, Ms. Abbott, who faced suspension by Labour in 2023 but was later allowed to participate in the last general election, highlighted the global struggle against the powerful and racist forces, even within her own party. Nigel Farage, leader of Reform, praised Sir Keir’s speech, indicating that he was learning a great deal from their approach.

Other placards displayed slogans such as ‘Nurses not nukes’ and ‘Cut war, not welfare’. The People’s Assembly organized the demonstration, bringing together trade unionists, healthcare, disability, welfare, and housing advocates with community organizations under the banner ‘No to Austerity2.0’.
