Asean leaders gather tomorrow for 46th summit
KUALA LUMPUR: The 46th Asean Summit and Related Summits are set to convene at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre tomorrow, uniting Southeast Asian leaders for top-level discussions on regional collaboration, economic integration, and geopolitical security.
Hosted under Malaysia’s 2025 Chairmanship theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’, the summits will see the participation of heads of government from all Asean member states, except Myanmar, and Timor-Leste as an observer country.
Agenda Highlights:
- The 46th Asean Summit (Plenary) chaired by President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim
- Discussions on trade and investment, maritime security, climate change, and the digital economy
- Focus on USA tariff hikes, Myanmar crisis, and South China Sea dispute
- The Asean Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA)
- The Asean Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of Asean Youth
- The Asean Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of the Asean Business Advisory Council (Asean-BAC)
- Signing ceremony of the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Asean 2045: Our Shared Future
- Gala Dinner hosted by President Anwar and Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail
This marks the fifth time Malaysia has held the Asean chairmanship, previously chairing it in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015. The summit will be followed by the second Asean-GCC Summit and the inaugural Asean-Cooperation Council (GCC)-China Summit on Tuesday, fostering regional and inter-regional cooperation.
