Abbott calls Starmer’s immigration comments ‘essentially racist’ at rally
Thousands of trade campaigners, activists and unionists gathered to ‘send out a message’ to the Federal government at a demonstration in central London.
The Prime Minister stated the UK risked ending up being ‘an island of strangers’ when he revealed strategies for tighter controls on immigration in a major speech last month, leading to a mixed reaction from different parties. Dealing with the protest crowd in Whitehall, Ms Abbott– who was previously suspended by Labour in 2023 before being allowed to run in last year’s general election– stated there was an international battle to ‘fight the rich and the effective (and) to combat the racists’, including in her own party. Reform’s leader Nigel Farage previously stated his party ‘really much delighted in’ Sir Keir’s speech, as it showed he was ‘learning a great deal’ from them.
Other indications being held aloft said ‘Nurses not nukes’ and ‘Cut war, not welfare’. The People’s Assembly stated trade unionists, health, housing, well-being and disability advocates with community organizations came together for the demonstration under the slogan ‘No to Austerity2.0’.
