Huge renovation work almost complete at Hungaroring ahead of F1 Hungarian GP
Budapest will host the 40th edition of the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix from 1-3 August 2025 and to mark the occasion, the Hungaroring has undergone a striking change over the past 12 months. On Thursday, the outcomes of that comprehensive building and remodelling work were revealed throughout a press event. The aging paddock structure and its similarly out-of-date media centre have not just been refurbished, but essentially reconstructed from the ground up. CEO Zsolt Gyulay expressed his pride in the renovations, calling the result “an uplifting sight”. The paddock center and the main grandstand opposite the start-finish straight have been completely redesigned. The goal was to replace the outdated infrastructure with a modern, efficiently run pit structure that meets all professional requirements of motorsport. The new structure now houses 40 garages, a catering and VIP area, administrative offices, a rooftop terrace, and a new storage facility. While construction will not be fully completed until April 2026, the exterior is already finished. Hungaroring also features two new tunnels connecting the paddock to the upgraded grandstand. The covered grandstand for 10,000 spectators now includes a new balcony and modern commentator booths. Hungarian State Secretary for Sport, Adam Schmidt, highlighted the track and the Hungarian Grand Prix’s importance in the country’s history. The event’s economic impact on the Hungarian economy has been significant. The Hungarian Grand Prix’s contract was extended until at least 2032, contingent on the completion of modernization efforts initiated after the contract signing in 2023.
